I do think the media is playing up for ratings and that they are not telling us the whole story. However, from what I've seen and read about past epidemics and what freaks out the CDC is that these viruses attack strong, healthy 20-40 year olds and are resistant to most known antibiotics. They cross species and mutate quickly - hitting hard and then disappearing. They are the opposite of the common flu. Also, the last three epidemics all showed up at the end of flu season then went dormant for the summer before exploding at the start of the next flu season. I don't believe in hype or conspiracies but I do believe in history. I agree with about half of what you say.
