On Monkeys, Pigeons and All That I Just Can Not Blog About
I have become rather obsessed with the political and economic turmoil that has gripped the United States in the last few weeks. I can not stop watching the news and reading the news and thinking about the news and talking about the news and dreaming about the news. In fact, I firmly plan to subscribe to either Time or NEWSWEEK by the end of the day. I need the news delivered right to my door in a format I can carry with me during my commute. All I have left to do is decide which to subscribe to. I’m leaning toward NEWSWEEK simply because it’s cheaper. In such dire economic times, cheaper is better.
My obsession is starting to take a toll, however. The lack of any positivity in the news is, to say the very least, a real bummer. Can’t just one thing go right for this country?
I wanted to blog about my fears that Sarah Palin’s “end-of-days” religious background may not bode so well for us should she suddenly find herself as Commander in Chief of our armed forces. I wanted to write about McCain’s close relationship with Georgia’s Mikheil Saakashvili and how this friendship could blind McCain to seeing the whole picture when it comes to Georgia’s problems with Russia. I wanted to blog about how our economic crisis is worsening by the moment because our politicians can’t put aside their petty difference long enough to come to a reasonable solution. I wanted to blog about all of that, but I just can’t. It all makes me sick to my stomach.
And so, instead of all of that, I leave you with a truly heartwarming tale of love, the tale of an abandoned baby monkey, close to death, who was revived by the love of a bird.

The 12-week-old monkey was rescued in Goangdong Province, China, after being abandoned by his mother. Taken to an animal hospital, he was weaned back to physical health but still showed little appetite for life. It was not until a fellow patient, a white pigeon, took him under her wing and showed him love and affection that he perked up.
Now, if we could just get McCain to hug Obama, maybe my ulcers would begin to heal.

That is sweet… that monkey looks like a girl who works here.
I’m so serious.
1. This might not be important to you, but in their founding Newsweek was considered to be more conservative, while Time was considered more liberal. (Not sure how that translates today.)
2. I heard an interesting story on NPR last night about how the media has not bothered to question whether or not there actually is an economic crisis. Not to say there is a conspiracy afoot, but more that the crisis is centralized to large financial institutions and many not translate to more. I didn’t really understand it, but it was certainly food for thought.
Right now I’m not really watching the news. It upsets me too much. I figure someone will tell me if anything happens that I really need to know about. And they have. I’m hearing about the financial crisis. But I’m not being news reported to death about it. And I know where to look if I want more info.
I like the story of the monkey and the pigeon. Much nice.
I don’t know what to tell you. This is why I keep my head buried in books. Better that then worrying. I love the story about the monkey. Incidentally, there is a new book called “Dewey” coming out about a cat that was stuffed in a book drop of a library in a small town. The library kept the cat and it became a famous library cat that loved everybody and lived there for 19 years. So if you want another heartwarming story, that one might be for you. Good luck with the Newsweek!
so shines a good day in a wicked world
And if the hug is not possible, maybe the Cubs winning the World Series is? Nahhhhhh!
Plus Chicago would be in chaos.
