On Lines, Snorts and My First Attempt at Using Cocaine
I tried cocaine last night for the first time.
While no one was looking I just snorted a line right up my nose. I wasn’t really planning on doing it, but it was there. I couldn’t deny it. Everyone was in the other room. I could hear them. I could sense them. But I was alone with no one to shield me from that tempting little line of white powder.

Even as I leaned closer to the line, I knew I was making a mistake. All of those childhood lessons about just saying no rushed back to me in that moment. And yet I kept going.
Who was going to see? Who was going to know? Would one time really kill me?
Truth be told, I didn’t snort the whole line. I just did enough for the lining in my nasal passages to burn. That scared me enough to stop. But by then the damage had been done.
I’d snorted cocaine.
Sadly, the payoff was rather disappointing. I never felt the jolt I expected to feel. No one asked me why I was acting so strangely. I didn’t strip down and dance on any tables. The night simply went on as usual while I wondered when I would finally feel the effects of my first line of the good stuff.
Turns out crack is not all it is cracked up to be.
I woke up this morning feeling fine. In fact, it was as if I never actually had done any hard drugs at all. And, I suppose, that may actually be the case. The real events of the night are a little hazy. Dreams seemed real. Reality seemed dreamt. There was a lot of heat and a lot of sweat.
But was there cocaine?
I will say that there was no powder on my nose when I went to brush my teeth this morning. So it must have been a dream. I’m not the kind of guy who does cocaine. I’m an innocent little guy, right? I’d never do anything like that. Ever.
Or would I?

Hmmmmm Dr. Sparky I am betting you would…..
just “try” it of course!
Drugs are bad, M’Kay? Don’t do drugs…
“…Truth be told, I didn’t snort the whole line.”
Well then exactly how high do you expect to get?
Most people do two. One up each nostril, you know. Not 1/4
But oh well, it’s probably for the best. Cocaine was almost my drug. As in, Catty Bitch, someone would ask me one day, if I’d ever done coke, and I would answer, in my best Evie Harris, “Once. Then every day after that for ten years. Why?”
Luckily, I had friends who said, us or it.
“My daddy is a coke freak…”
I am so going to get a full segment on Maury for this.
there is NOTHING “innocent” about you
perhaps you got ‘bad stuff’ – which is a blessing in my opinion.
every cokehead I have ever treated started out in mere curiosity to try it.
please don’t do that again. we care for you.
and
it supports a very evil empire in South America.
Just a reminder–coke is not on our repertoire for having fun tomorrow night. I don’t want to end up on an episode of “Intervention” where I chase you down in the street after you go storming off for another fix.
I, of course, expect this to be fully fleshed out in the novel you write.
Whitney Houston said it best… crack is wack.
I have never understood the big deal about coke, or how people get addicted to it. It burns, it tastes bad, it stops up your nose forever and it makes your winky not work. Once was definitely enough for me. Don’t do it again! We know where you live! Illinois somewhere right?
Hopefully, it was just a dream.
And yes, you can actually die from trying it just once. Didn’t you ever read the Sweet Valley High books?
Can doing cocaine just once really be that bad?
First of all, just a lil friendly differentiation: Crack is referred to as the smokable form of cocaine.
But I believe that the only way to truely be against something, with your heart and mind, is to try it first. I’m not advising long term use, or even any use, but to have the best advantage and know the best of both worlds, you have to attempt it first.
I don’t believe you can get hooked on cocaine with just one hit, I think it depends on you do it with and why you’re doing.
